Two more cubs rescued from Zogg Fire, More than 13,000 firefighters battling fires through state

HUMBOLDT COUNTY, Calif. (KIEM)-The Zogg Fire, north of Igo in Shasta County burning for nearly two weeks, is now nearly 95% contained.

More than 56,000 acres have burned, four civilians have lost their lives and one firefighter was injured in since the fire began.

The cause still under investigation, to date – more than 200 structures have been destroyed.

Evacuations and road closures around the area of Zogg Mine Road remain in effect, as agencies in the area continue to work on repairing and restoring utilities.

Two mountain lion cubs have been rescued from the Zogg Fire, and have joined Captain Cal -at the Oakland Zoo.

The two female cubs seen in the photo above, lost their mother in the Zoggfire, the same fire that injured and orphaned Captain Cal – the little cub Redwood News previously reported.

According Oakland Zoo staff, the cubs have been examined and appear to be in good health.

Eventually, the two female cubs will be introduced to Captain Cal, for some mountain lion interaction.

More than 13,000 firefighters continue to battle 20 major wildfires – that have now consumed more than four million acres – throughout California, according to Cal fire.   

State, local, tribal and federal resources are working together to fight the state wide wildfires.

as of Saturday, 1,000 engines, 94 assigned aircraft , 188 bull dozers and more than 290 water tenders are assigned to various locations throughout the state – including nearly 300 fire crews.
