Heroin traffickers arrested on Highway 101 near Benbow Drive

HUMBOLDT COUNTY, Calif. (KIEM) – Two people suspected for drug trafficking were arrested yesterday in southern Humboldt.

Michael wade of Rio Dell and Josie Craig of Garberville both 27 years old were pulled over on highway 101 at the south end of Benbow Drive.

Now according to authorities, the Humboldt County Drug Task Force had been investigating the pair for trafficking heroin from southern California.

During the stop, Wade, Who was the driver initially ran from police, but he was taken into custody after a short foot chase.

Police believe he was under the influence at the time of the incident and charged him with a DUI.

Police located paraphernalia along with a log of drug transactions in the vehicle. Wade has been charged with transportation of heroin, but he also had two other felony warrants for his arrest.

Josie Craig also admitted to police that she hid heroin in her body at the time of the stop.

Under the supervision of a female officer, she removed about two ounces of heroin from her body. Craig faces charges of transportation of heroin.
