Mad River Community Hospital hosts its annual staff pumpkin patch

ARCATA, Calif. (KIEM)- The Mad River Community Hospital in Arcata hosted their annual staff pumpkin patch today.

Staff didn’t have to venture out too far. The hospital has a garden with different types of fruits and veggies, including pumpkins and that’s where the pumpkin patch was held.

The event was held for staff and their families as a way to have fun and boost morale.

Not only was there a pumpkin patch, there was also hay rides, horses and snacks for all attendees.

The hospital’s staff was excited the event happened amid COVID-19, keeping their tradition alive.

“Well as staff, we’re working really hard right now and coming to work and then going straight home and staying there. So, getting out with the family, doing something together is really nice right now,” said Peri Penman, a Physician at the Mad River Community Hospital. “So, we come out here, we get pumpkins and delicious coffee and other things and we just get to spend time together and ,of course, ride the horses and the hay ride and pick out some pretty cool pumpkins.”

Hospital staff say they’re grateful for the event and proud of the hospital’s garden.
