HUMBOLDT COUNTY, Calif. (KIEM)-The Red Salmon Complex fire is remains 75% contained, after burning more than 143,000 acres.

A red flag warning will be in effect over the fire area due to strong winds and low humidity levels starting Sunday morning through Monday, according to the US Forest Service.

Cloud cover will help keep temperatures near the fire cool and increase humidity levels throughout the evening.

However, humidity will drop again tomorrow as winds pick up tomorrow night.

Fourteen crews, 37 engines, 9 dozers, 6 helicopters and nine water tenders are fighting the fire.

Robert Laena is Deputy Incident Commander from Incident Management Team-12.

“About two weeks ago, three weeks ago you’re hitting record ERCs, energy release components and right now just because of the longer nights, shorter days the cooler temperatures and the relative humidity your down below the 80th percentile,” he said. “Which is ERC is an indicator trend of the season and the BIR burn index is the day to day, you know fire danger your energy release components are at a rapid drop right now, they really significantly dropped which means that the potential for the fire to make a serious push is being reduced.”
