FORTUNA, Calif. (KIEM)-A Fortuna man is now in custody after he barricaded himself in motel room after police attempted to serve him with a warrant.

“He subsequently barricaded himself in the apartment,” said Fortuna Police’s Sergeant Jason Kadle.

Just before 11 o’clock Monday morning Fortuna police was dispatched to a domestic violence incident on the 500-block of South Fortuna Boulevard.

“The officers were able to get an arrest warrant for the subject,” said Kadle.

Police sent out a reverse 911 call asking residents to shelter-in-place for their safety – as several law officials and their vehicles surrounded 6Rivers Motel.

According Kadle, the suspect -now identified as 35-year-old Robert Marmon of Fortuna – refused to speak with law enforcement.

“We started negotiations with him, and we then, had the hostage negotiation team from the county, multiple disciplinary team showed up,” he said.

That team assisted Fortuna Police with the negotiations – after about 3 hours, Marmon surrendered to police without incident and ultimately booked.

” [He] was handcuffed and then transported to the Humboldt County Correctional Facility where he’s book on domestic violent charges,” said Kadle.

The status of the victim has not been released.
