What is also a standard procedure for FPD, to be prepared for a worst case scenario.

“Whenever we have something that can be excelled into a critical incident, we like to think and plan ahead,” he said.

In this case – 35-year old Robert Marmon – was armed with a weapon, and according to Fortuna’s police chief, the suspect warned police, the room was booby trapped.

“From interviews with the victim, was that he was armed with a large machete knife,” said Casey.

Their plan, to get the suspect to relinquish the knife.

“There was a large enough gap to fit the knife under the door where he felt comfortable to slide that knife out,” said Casey.

As the incident progressed, the suspect indicated to police he had some type of flammable gas in the room with him.

“So, we got a text photograph of exactly what he had in there.”

Which turned out to be a couple of butane canisters and some type of kitchen style propane tank, that information was shared with experts on scene.

“Which, it was determined to be to be minimal,” he said.

Marmon ultimately surrendered without incident and is currently in the Humboldt County Correctional Facility.

The victim was taken to an area hospital for treatment of her injuries.

Due to her status as a victim, additional information including her identity is not being released.

“What I can say, is that the victim is in stable condition,” said Casey.
