California State Parks, CAL FIRE conducting prescribed burns on the North Coast

Humboldt County, Calif. (KIEM) — California State Parks and CAL FIRE is performing prescribed burns in 3 state parks on the North Coast: Prairie Creek Redwoods, Sinkyone Wilderness, and Humboldt Redwoods State Parks.

Smoke and flames may be visible from the Mattole Road and the bypass at Prairie Creek Redwoods. Officials will monitor the fire to make sure it stays within its boundaries.

The prescribed burns aim to reduce the number of trees and shrubs, and reduce the risk of high severity wildfires. They also help to promote forest resilience and to maintain prairie grasslands.
