HSU Athletics forms Social Equity Accountability Committee

ARCATA, Calif. (KIEM) – After events that transpired over the summer, Humboldt State Athletics decided to create a new committee focusing on equity and inclusiveness in the department.

The Social Equity Accountability Committee is comprised of eight members of the athletics program. It includes Michelle Bento-Jackson (Head Women’s Basketball Coach), Ashley Donnell (Assistant Women’s Rowing Coach), Dr. Amber Gaffney (Faculty Athletic Representative), Megan Hankins-Maldonado (Assistant Women’s Basketball Coach), Jamey Harris (Head Cross Country Coach, Assistant Track and Field Coach), Arlene Wynn (Administrative Coordinator), Sei Hee Hwang (Academic Advisor), and Shelli Sarchett (Head Softball Coach). Head Athletic Trainer Shannon Childs will serve as the chair.

“Humboldt State University has a very diverse group of student-athletes,” Childs said. “This diversity has not historically been represented in the campus community or in the surrounding communities of Humboldt County. We have an obligation to ensure that our student-athletes have the resources and opportunities they need to not only succeed but thrive here at HSU.”
