Humboldt State University makes a bigger effort to get students to register and vote this year

ARCATA, Calif. (KIEM)- Humboldt State University has been pushing hard this year to get students to register to vote and cast their ballots.

This year not only did the voters initiative push to get students registered to vote, the athletics program and the associated students jumped in to help as well.

“We outnumber, you know, our older folks,” said Juan Giovanni Guerrero, External Affairs Representative for Associated Students. “So, we really have a potential significant impact to make across the United States if we go out and participate and vote.”

The athletics program held many campaigns on social media encouraging students to register and the university’s debate team held an event to help educate students about the Electoral College.

“We want to encourage our students to vote so they recognize the power that they have in creating the country that the want,” said Molly Kresl, Clubs and Activities Coordinator for Humboldt State University.
