HUMBOLDT COUNTY, Calif. (KIEM) –The Humboldt County Office of Elections released their final election night report just after 3 Wednesday morning, and at that point, all 66 precincts were reporting results.

According to the latest report, about 49% of registered voters cast their ballots for the 2020 election in Humboldt County either by mail or in person at a voter assistance center, but that’s not the final number.

“We have roughly maybe another 20,000 left to process, but will be looking at all that today and tomorrow, and we should have a solid figure tomorrow of what’s left to process,” according to Registrar of Voters Kelly Sanders.

In this year’s general election, 36,000 mail in ballots were counted prior to Election Day compared to 17,000 mail in ballots counted before the primary election in March. Many voters still headed to the polls to vote in person, but some were met with longer wait times.

“We got to everybody some people had to stand in line for quite a while but they got to vote,” Sanders says.

The only issue that arose was one location said their scanner had gone down at the end of the night, but it was brought back to the elections office and worked fine.

As far as tracking your ballot, Sanders says there isn’t anything to be concerned about, but to expect some delays before receiving a message from BallotTrax.

“All the ballots that were hand-delivered or put in a drop box are here at our location. As far as receiving a message through BallotTrax, we have to scan those return envelopes in and verify their signature before they will get a message so expect some delays on that,” Sanders says.

Any questions you may have regarding your ballot, you can contact the elections office directly.
