HUMBOLDT COUNTY, Calif. (KIEM) – Police responded to several incidents through-out Humboldt this week -and they all appeared to be as a result a pellet gun.

Fortuna resident Melissa Price was one of those victims.

“It’s very scary that it’s happening so often, but I thought someone was trying to kill us,” she said.

Price says, she still can’t believe what happened to her – and her 16-month-old daughter, Tuesday.

“It was very loud, I looked over at it and about a second later, I heard another loud sound just shattered all over me and flew into the car,” she said.

That’s when her instincts kicked-in.

“To get out of there, and called 911, so we headed straight to the police station,” said Price.

Something, Public Information Officer Brittany Powell with Eureka P-D says, is exactly the right thing to do.

“Always be aware of no matter the situation, and try to stay calm,” she said.

There were several reports of vehicles damaged Tuesday with what appeared to be rocks, B.B. pellets – but what exactly, is still unknown.

“They started calling into us at around 9:30 in the morning,” said Powell. “We had five incidents total, of moving vehicles who had their windows damaged.”

The incidents happened in more than one location.

“A couple of the incidents happened on Broadway and the other three of them occurred on Myrtle,” she said.

In Arcata, also an incident involving a pellet gun, which happened at about 6:30 Monday evening.

According to Humboldt County Sheriff’s deputies discovered a 37-year-old male victim shot in the neck with what appeared to be a pellet gun.

The victim told deputies, he didn’t see the suspect before he was shot – but thought it could have been accidental.

That victim, in critical condition, was flown to an out-of-area hospital for emergency treatment.

Redwood news reached out to the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office to see if the Eureka and Arcata incidents are connected – Public Information Specialist Samantha Karges said in a statement, ”We have not received information regarding the Arcata pellet gun incident being connected to anything in Eureka at this point.'”

EPD says, there is no suspect description, and no way of knowing if the cases are linked but has this message.

Powell says, anyone who has information is asked to call Eureka PD.

“If you or anybody that has a wrist rocket or BB gun or pellet gun, kids that might have been in the area and if you know anything, let us know,” she said.

Price says she is traumatized.

“He needs to realize that his actions it’s very scary consequences, it’s very terrifying,” said Price.

Anyone with information about any of the incidents that occurred either in Eureka is asked to call EPD at (707) 441-4060.

Those who have information connected to the Arcata incident should call HCSO at (707) 445-7251 or the crime tip line at (707) 268-2539.
