C.R. students repair home damaged by fatal drunk driving incident

HUMBOLDT HILL, Ca. (KIEM) – students from The College Of The Redwoods Carpentry Program are working with industry partners to repair the home of Bob Beland, who was tragically killed last year when a drunk driver drove into his home.

In June of 2019,  Derek Glavich, instructor of the Construction Technology Program, reached out to the family of Beland to fix the extensive damage done to the home after he read about the incident in the paper.

In true community spirit, several local venders agreed to donate materials and labor to the repair effort.

The class has now completed the demolition process and is preparing to add a bathroom and frame the walls. Once that is completed students from the electrical program will come in to finish the wiring in the home.
