Del Norte County, Calif. (KIEM)-The Del Norte County man accused of murdering his wife last year has been convicted of second degree murder and misdemeanor child endangerment – Edward Hughes IV now faces 15 years to life, in prison.
The prosecution rested its case Monday – the jury started deliberating Tuesday afternoon.
At about 2:30 Wednesday afternoon – a jury of 12 came out with a unanimous guilty verdict.
Jury selection started last week – the courts swore in a jury of 12, along with four alternates.
Hughes was charged with the murder of his wife Emiley Tesch Hughes whose body was discovered February 14 2019, in a closet at the couple’s mobile home in Crescent City.
Her grandmother reported the mother of three missing on the February 1, 2019.
On Valentine’s Day the same year – she reported to 911 dispatch ” a strange odor” and body found inside a closet in the home where her granddaughter lived.
An autopsy showed Emiley’s death was most likely as a result of strangulation.
Hughes is expected back in court December 28th, before the Honorable Darren McElfresh, for sentencing.
