Humboldt County officially moves into the purple tier, limited stay at home order takes effect Thursday

HUMBOLDT COUNTY, Calif. (KIEM) — As expected, Humboldt County has officially been reassigned to the purple or most restrictive tier in the state’s Covid 19 re-opening framework.

Various industries will have to either reduce capacity, move outdoors, or cease operations entirely. Some of the biggest changes is that restaurants, gyms and fitness centers, and places of worship must move outdoors. Indoor operations are no longer allowed for those businesses. Bars and breweries remain closed. Retail establishments can still operate indoors but at a maximum 25% capacity.

“We can get this under control. It’s going to take using all the steps we’ve talked about masking, distancing, doing things outdoors as much as possible, in addition to not traveling, not gathering over this holiday weekend. Doing so will allow us to step back into our less restrictive tier, allow us to protect our businesses and our schools, and our health care capacity,” according to County Health Officer Dr. Teresa Frankovich.

The state’s limited stay at home order will take effect locally Thursday night at 10 pm. It requires residents to not gather with non-household members and stop any non-essential activities between 10 pm and 5 am.
