Healthcare Workers are feeling the stress now more than ever

HUMBOLDT COUNTY, Calif. (KIEM)- As the COVID-19 pandemic hits record levels, many healthcare workers are feeling the stress now more than ever.

Because they are healthcare workers, they are more vulnerable to this virus than the average person.

Many of them have had to isolate themselves from their family and friends to make sure that they not only keep their patients safe but also their families.

“When things get hard at work a lot of times, we lean on each other and we’ll spend time together to de-stress or debrief or unwind,” said Laura Mojica, OB Nurse and Lactation Consultant at Redwood Memorial Hospital. “That’s not an option for us right now, that’s stressful as well because all of us are missing all those extra points of contact that would normally help us to feel a little bit less lonely or a little bit less stressed out.”

Mojica, along with other medical experts, is worried about the long-term effects of this virus.

So, she encourages people not to put themselves or the healthcare workers at risk and make sure to stay home and not gather for this holiday season.
