CIF removes Season 1 Regional and State Championships

SACRAMENTO, Calif. (KIEM) – The California Interscholastic Federation issued a statement regarding education-based athletics for the 2020-2021 school year.

The CIF announced the postponement of the release of sports guidance by the California Department of Public Health due to the current surge in COVID-19 cases.

An update is not expected until January 1 at the earliest. Full practice and start dates are officially on hold. The statement also details the removal of Regional and State Championship events from the Season 1 sports calendar.

The CIF State Office made the decision to provide a longer season, rather than a schedule shortened by post-season play. To avoid the loss of a second full season, the CIF announced that boys volleyball will be moved to Season 2. A new schedule will be released in January.
