CCAA forgoes conference schedules, championships

HUMBOLDT COUNTY, Calif. (KIEM) – The California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) released a statement regarding the 2020-2021 academic year.

The CCAA will forgo all schedules and championships for every sport. The decision was made by the CCAA Board of Presidents in conjunction with athletics administrators from different institutions and the conference. CCAA Commissioner Mitch Cox provided a statement in the official press release.

“I know this decision is extremely disappointing for our student-athletes, coaches, staff and fans,” Cox said. “But from the day this pandemic took effect, every decision we made going forward has been focused on the health and safety of everyone involved. We remain committed to providing as many meaningful engagement opportunities for all of our student-athletes, coaches and staff throughout the rest of the 2020-21 academic year.”

There will be no competitive schedules, but opportunities for team activities, practices, and training may be determined by member schools with approval. The current CCAA activity policy will remain in effect through December.
