Man arrested in connection to string of dumpster fires in Eureka


EUREKA, Calif. (KIEM) — A man is arrested for arson after Humboldt Bay Fire responds to a string of dumpster fires along the Highway 101 corridor through Eureka. 41-year-old Wayne Robert Mathern was identified as the suspect in the 4 separate fires after Eureka Police reviewed surveillance video and searched the area.

The fires were started between 2:30 am and 8 am Friday morning on Third Street, Summer Street, F Street, and on Broadway. Total damage is estimated around $16,000. Mathern is facing charges for arson and probation violation. He is not eligible for bail.
