Senator Mike McGuire introduces new Landmark Legislation

Senator Mike McGuire is introducing a new landmark legislation to confront California’s increasing wildfire risk.

More than 38,000 homes and other structures have been destroyed by California wildfires since 2015.

The legislation will establish new safety standards for developments in high risk wildfire areas. These safety standard requirements will have to be met before the start of any development.

Senator Mike McGuire says, “Ingress and egress, you can no longer have one way in and one way out. You will need to have an entrance and exit to major developments when you build in high fire hazard severity zones. You have to have pull outs for emergency vehicles. You have to build in the safest area of the zone in which you what to be able to develop.” 

According to the press release, this new legislation is not discouraging the communities to develop, but it does tell them they have to do it safely.
