Despite the COVID-19 pandemic, the Humboldt Community is helping out more than ever at this year’s Humboldt Holiday Food Drive.

The event is hosted by Food for People, State Senator Mike McGuire, and high school student leaders.

Humboldt Holiday Food Drive has seen an increase of online donations this year due to the pandemic. State Senator Mike McGuire says, they will see about 4 to 5 times more donations online and this year will be the biggest year for cash donation.

This annual food drive is traditionally a competition between students at Eureka, Ferndale, Fortuna, Arcata, McKinleyville, and St. Bernard’s High Schools. According to Food For People’s Executive Director Anne Holcomb, students decided to join efforts because the need is much greater than other years.

If you would like to make a donation this holiday season, the main event will happen Thursday, December 10th from 3p.m. to 6p.m at the Safeway in Eureka. You may also find more information at https://www.foodforpeople.org/content/senator-mike-mcguires-humboldt-holiday-food-drive.
