FORTUNA, Calif. (KIEM)- The Fortuna Volunteer Fire Department is having their annual Santa Sleigh Drive, but it will be a little different this year.
The volunteer fire department normally starts preparing for the Santa sleigh drive closer to Christmas but because of the pandemic, they have had to change the date and how they will distribute the toys.
Instead of dropping off the gifts to ever house like they normally do, they are going to have a drive thru system and they will have that Saturday, December 19th.
“This, like I said, has been going on since 1987 and like you said this year especially the way times are things are real tough for people right now,” said Michael Ransford, the Co. 5 Captain for the Fortuna Volunteer Fire Department. “So, it’s more important than ever to get out there, support our community and help out our families and our kids.”
The Fortuna Volunteer Fire Department says that they have received more donations this year than in any year before.
