Arcata Main Street had to get creative with the Santa parade

ARCATA, Calif. (KIEM)- Arcata Main Street had to get creative this year for their annual Santa parade.

This event is usually part of the Arcata Main Street season of wonder and light, but because of the covid-19 restrictions it had to be a standalone event to be safe and follow county guidelines.

So, the Arcata Santa rode in a vintage fire truck around the city and made stops at the plaza and several shopping centers across Arcata.

The organization knows that times are tough and felt that keeping this tradition alive would be great for the community.

“So, last weekend we had two days of zooming with Santa using the Jacoby Storehouse background as our space and then this was our other idea to give this gift to the community of getting a little bit of a connection with Santa Claus, the snowflake fairy and elf even if it was a little bit more distant than usual,” said the event coordinator for Arcata Main Street Shoshanna Anthony.

Arcata Main Street has one last event for the holidays which will be held tomorrow at the Arcata plaza.
