HUMBOLDT COUNTY, Calif. (KIEM) — There are 566 cases of Covid-19 reported locally still under investigation as far as means of transmission. Humboldt County Health Officer Dr. Ian Hoffman addressed the issue in his latest media availability.

The reason for the delay was Public Health’s switch to Cal Connect, a state system that aims to make contact tracing and investigations more organized. Local staff had to receive new training, which took some time away from their other work.

“My understanding is that there is a backlog of those 600 some cases that we are working to get that information on. We know the information, we just have to collate it and put it in the right place so we can put it on the dashboard and that’s being done over the course of the next week,” Hoffman says.

As far as means of transmission, a majority of cases are still coming from contact with a known case. The county is also still seeing cases tied to travel.

“Certainly gatherings is another area that we know a big majority of our cases are coming from,” Hoffman adds.

Hoffman is hopeful an update will be available sometime next week. To view the full Covid-19 dashboard, you can visit www.humboldtgov.org.
