EUREKA, Calif. (KIEM)-The Humboldt Bay Fire Department responded to a structure fire just before 10 this morning at the corner of Clark and D streets in Eureka.

When fire fighters entered the home they discovered a fire around a floor heater – located on the first floor.

A portion of the floor boards were cut out to get to the fire – underneath the floor.

The fire was put out before it could reach other areas of the home.

Fire officials reported no injuries, damages were estimated $10,000.

Battalion Chief and Paramedic Tim Citro with Humboldt Bay Fire, asks those to be mindful when using any type of heat source indoors.

“We’d like to remind everybody who has a floor heater or a gas wall heater to keep combustibles of three feet away, they could ignite and cause a fire just like this one.”

The cause – was determined to be combustible materials placed on-top of the heater, while in use.
