Restaurants Re-open For Indoor Dining

EUREKA, Calif. (KIEM) – Humboldt County was moved back down from the most restrictive purple tier to the red tier yesterday.

This means that customers can once again enjoy indoor dining now that Humboldt County is lowered to the “substantial” COVID-19 risk tier.

Under this red tier, COVID restrictions have been loosened and restaurants can now allow up to 100 people or have a 25% capacity limit, depending on whichever is less.

Owner of 6th and E Neighborhood Eatery, Christine Silver, says, “We are very excited to see our guests come into the dining room again…so as the guests come back into the dining room I think the message that’s really important is that we ask them to be considerate of those roles as well.”

Although being able to serve customers is great news, some restaurant owners realize that things can quickly change.

Owner of AA Bar and Grill, Mike Munson, says, “We were kind of anticipating that this would probably happen somewhere around this time, but we’re also anticipating that it may not be very long-lived.”

In fact, county health officer, Dr. Ian Hoffman warns, “I would strongly caution anyone with a restaurant right now who is planning to re-open um, that they should be concerned that this could be reversed.”

In the meantime, AA Bar and Grill re-opened just today, and they’ve already seen a difference in the number of customers dropping by to dine in.
