Vaccination clinic for Hoopa Community elders age 75 and older resumes Monday, vaccination recipients urged to report side effects

HOOPA VALLEY, Calif. (KIEM)- Vaccination clinics for Hoopa community elders age 75 and older will resume Monday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Of K’ima:w Medical Center, according to Hoopa OES officials. 

The Executive Director Of K’ima:w Medical Center Dr. Emmett Chase says, they expect to use all 300 COVID-19 vaccines by Tuesday – with a shipment of about 100 more set to arrive the same day.

Between 120 to 150 have been vaccinated, including nearly all K’ima:w Medical Center employees- according Chase.

Health officials urge those who experience side effects from the vaccine – to report them immediately – which can now be done through a phone app released by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

The free app was created to keep the vaccine safe.

Chase says, some have experienced mild side effects.

“No bad reactions to the vaccine, as far as we know of,” said K’ima:w Medical Center Executive Director Dr. Emmett Chase.“ [A] couple people had red spots on their arm, and it went away in three days, and some people had a hardness of the muscle where the injection occurred but not severe reactions for sure.”

Vaccination clinics will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at K’imo:w Medical Center – registration is required, call (530) 625-4261 to reserve a time slot.

Free COVID-19 testing will also be available on Jan. 3, 14. 21 and 28 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m at Tsewenaldin Inn.
