DEL NORTE CONTY, Calif. (KIEM)-Del Norte County Government first responders had their first chance this week at the Pfizer Covid-19 Vaccine.

Firefighters from Crescent City Fire & Rescue, Gasquet Volunteer Fire Department and the Crescent City Police Department who participated on Monday were given their first of a two-shot series.

Medical professionals were on stand-by to monitor adverse or allergic reactions, according to Crescent City’s Fire Chief Bill Gillespie.

He says, those 40 who received the vaccine reported a sore shoulder and some had mild fatigue the next day.

The vaccine event was made possible with help from the Del Norte County Public Health.

“I’m sure we’ll be setting up another go around, probably in the, in the very near future to get another group,” said Gillespie. “I was glad to see first responders that have received them so far, be able to get that.

“Helps to keep us healthy and that way we can continue to respond to keep our community healthy.”

Gillespie urges the community to continue to use a mask, practice social distancing, sanitize surfaces and spaces, and wash your hands regularly.
