HUMBOLDT COUNTY, Calif. (KIEM) — The Choose Humboldt Coalition is asking the community to support local restaurants and is kicking off Humboldt Restaurant Month for the rest of January.

Over the holiday season the group encouraged residents to shop local and support businesses that have been impacted by the pandemic. Now, the focus is shifting to local restaurants.

“That was a success. The community really jumped behind that and shopped local this holiday season. As a group, you know there’s about 18 organizations under the Choose Humboldt campaign led by Humboldt Made, we decided let’s focus our energy on restaurants,” according to Humboldt Made Executive Director Alanna Powell.

For the rest of January, it’s Humboldt Restaurant Month. It’s all about dining at local restaurants, food trucks, and breweries however that may look. Whether it’s take out boxes, curbside pickup, or eating outdoors.

“If we want to see these restaurants continue to survive, now is the time to support them. They’re at a critical point at this juncture and the more we can support them, the more likely we’re still going to have locally owned restaurants to go out and enjoy,” Powell says.

Starting Monday, just take a picture of you eating local, share it on social media, and you’ll be entered to win a $50 gift card to an eatery of your choice. Three winners will be chosen throughout the month, one each week. Don’t forget to use #dineouthumboldt or #choosehumboldt.
