Public Health surveying how residents feel about the Covid-19 vaccine

HUMBOLDT COUNTY, Calif. (KIEM) — Covid-19 vaccines are being rolled out, right now to healthcare workers in phase 1A and will be followed by phase 1B and 1C before being rolled out to the general public. But how do people feel about getting vaccinated?

Humboldt County Public Health has already surveyed health care partners, and has recently rolled out a community survey to get an idea of how the broader community feels. Across the country between 60 and 70% of people who are offered the vaccine take it. Some places that number is higher.

Humboldt County Health Officer Dr. Ian Hoffman understands some people may be hesitant about receiving the vaccine, but he assures residents the vaccine has been tested and is safe.

“It’s also a highly effective vaccine, one of the most highly effective vaccines we’ve ever seen with 94% efficacy, which is much greater than we could have every anticipated. If we want this pandemic to end, this is really the tool that we need to have this pandemic end,” Hoffman says.
