KLAMATH, Calif. (KIEM)-The Yurok Tribe can add one more business to their growing economic development enterprise – which will pump money back into their economy.

The Yurok Agricultural Corporation acquired the Lindgren Lumber Company, based out of Arcata, after the founder and Yurok elder Joe Lingren retired and offered to sell the company to the tribe.

Yurok officials say the latest acquisition is an opportunity to invest in the future of their tribe and community.

The Weitchpec Nursery and Shorline Market funded through the Cares Act – will provide essential services, including food, fuel, and water to the Weithchepec and Orick communities.

Yurok Tribe Chairman Joseph James says this purchase will benefit future generations.

“Developing new revenue streams on and off the reservation strengthens our sovereignty and reinforces the stability of our nation,” he said.  “This acquisition will serve our people for many decades to come.”

Lindgren who started the company 30 years ago, alongside if son Joseph, will no longer oversee everyday operations but will serve as an unpaid advisor during and after the finalized sale.
