Fire destroys two manufactured homes and RV parked nearby; Causes estimated $200,000 in damages

EUREKA, Calif. (KIEM)-Humboldt bay fire was back out on the 27-block of spears road – to mop-up after a fire destroyed two single-wide manufactured homes and an RV parked, nearby.

Humboldt bay fire was dispatched to a structure on the property Tuesday night at about 10:43 – when crews arrived all occupants of the home, including pets had been evacuated.

due to the due to large amounts of burning materials on the property fire crews will be on scene to mop-up for several hours.

Accessing the fire proved difficult for fire fighters due to a long steep-muddy- driveway leading to the homes.

To make matters worse an unattended vehicle blocked the roadway that led to a hydrant.

Neighbors say they heard explosions coming from the property.

According to Humboldt Bay Fire home owners told fire personell several propane tanks, including a 200-gallon tank had be recently filled.

Fire fighters continued to fight the fire from a distance – then a large propane tank exploded which set a nearby Redwood tree a blaze.

Captain Kris Kalaman with Humboldt Bay Fire says fire personnel remained on scene for hours due to large amounts of material that continued to burn.

“We came in today to just locate any hotspots or any kind of remaining fire that we can knock, so smoke detectors save lives so make sure they are up to date and batteries are current and just be diligent,” he said.

No injuries were reported – the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
