Last Chance Grade closed nightly for 10 hours till Saturday, No vehicles through during closure

DEL NORTE, Calif. (KIEM)-Night-time closures at the last chance grade area south of Crescent City started this week.

Motorists who travel on Highway 101 in Del Norte county, that portion of the roadway will be shut down to traffic for 10 hours every night.

According to Caltrans, the closure is necessary to improve the existing roadway grade and to cut down the time crews need to complete the project.

From 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. only emergency vehicles will be allowed through the closure area.

Night closures, weather permitting, should conclude Saturday morning.
