HSU student-athletes excel in the classroom

ARCATA, Calif. (KIEM) – While student-athletes were unable to compete due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Lumberjacks were still able to not only succeed but excel in the classroom.

The Department of Athletics saw a median GPA of 3.38 in the fall semester, which was higher than the median GPA of 3.16 posted by the student body. Ten teams earned a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher. The women’s basketball team, rowing team, and softball team all posted their highest GPAs in ten years.

Over 100 student-athletes earned at least a 3.5 GPA. A total of 44 were named to the Dean’s List, while 36 were named Presidential Scholars. To earn the honors, a student-athlete must post at least a 3.5 or 3.85 respectively.

Academic Advisor Sei Hee Hwang said she is proud of the resiliency shown by student-athletes as they adapted to new circumstances.
