CRESCENT CITY, Calif. (KIEM)-Crescent City Police Chief Richard Griffin, says his mission is to close all missing persons cases, there are five cases to solve.

Annick Joseph reported on two Thursday, and Friday she took a look at the last three.

Chief Richard Griffin says “good investigation” helped close all but five missing persons cases.

One of the oldest open cases is that of a 33-year-old Shannon Loney.

“He went missing, one day and came home, and the basically the next day he wasn’t there. His roommate said it wasn’t like him.

He was last seen on February 10, 1997 at his home on the 800-block of H Street in Crescent City and may have been travelling to the Medford, Oregon area at that time to work in the timber industry.

“His bank records show nothing, criminal history shows nothing, any of our law enforcement data base show now information kind of turned into a ghost,” said Griffin.

71-year-old Carl Bookhammer has been missing since 2015.

“With this case were leaning that foul play, even though we don’t have a lot of evidence to go on, there was some great investigation done back by Detective Keith Doyle with CCPD.

Bookhammer was last seen at his home located at 580 7th Street in Crescent City.

According to Griffin the case is being evaluated—some are being re-interviewed.

“Bookhammer also has a warrant for his arrest, based on this, because he had failed to register so we kind of wanted to cover both ends on that,” he said.  “Verify that he’s alive and take him out of the system. “

Elba long is 63-years-old and was last seen in February 2011.

“He was there one day then he was not the next. There was some information that he may have gotten to with one of our local drug dealers, not confirmed that,” according to Griffin.

Long’s last known address was at 300 Elk Valley Road off Highway 101, a bone belonging to Long washed up on the beach in Crescent City on December 31, 2014.

“A local found that and brought it into law enforcement and it was confirmed through DNA to belong to Mr. Long,” said Griffin.

Anyone with information connected to any of these cases is urged call the Crescent City Police Department at (707) 464-2133.
