Arcata Battalion Chief Sean Campbell said, they had to set up a defensive fire attack to battle the blaze.

“The reason for that was because it’s an abandoned structure, no longer in service and very dangerous for firefighters,” said Chief Campbell. “We requested a lot of additional resources to basically surround and drown the fire. That was our objective.”

Chief Campbell says that the fire will be smoldering for hours and he expects crews will be out there all night.
