FORTUNA, Calif. (KIEM)-The family of a single story wood framed home is expected to be OK after a fire destroyed one of their bedrooms.
The Fortuna Volunteer Fire Department responded to a home on the 1700-block of Carson Wood Road in Fortuna on Monday around noon.
Division Chief of Training for Fortuna Fire Rus Brown says his crew arrived to heavy smoke coming from the home and the property owners trying to extinguish the flames with a water hose.
Brown says the fire was contained to one room, then put out once back up arrived, causing about $50,000 in damages.
Brown says vehicles obstructed fire fighters from accessing the property but were later moved by the owners.
“I think every homeowner needs to think about access that’s one of the things that doesn’t get stressed enough, that message. If it’s hard to get your car into your residence, think about how hard it’s going to be to get a fire engine or a fire truck in your location. Everything worked out fine,” he said.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
