Mayor Pro Tem arraigned on felony charges, expected to enter plea next month

CRESCENT CITY, Calif. (KIEM)-Crescent City’s new Mayor Pro Tem Alex Campbell was arraigned Friday, in Del Norte County’s Superior Court, on felony charges.

Campbell is facing two felony counts of perjury and one count of false declaration of candidacy, according to the clerk’s office.

Crescent City Manager Eric Wier says his office was notified, back in January, that Campbell did not live in Crescent City, which violates election laws, all city council members must have a residence inside city limits.

Campbell allegedly owns a home in the county but rents a room within city limits.

Campbell was elected to the Crescent City council on November 3, 2020,then ultimately became Mayor Pro Tem in December.

He is expected back in court March 2 to enter a plea.
