Newsom issues new youth sports guidance

HUMBOLDT COUNTY, Calif. (KIEM) – On Friday, Governor Gavin Newsom announced an update to youth sports guidance. The new guidelines essentially give outdoor sports the green light to return to play.

Humboldt County is currently in the COVID-19 purple tier which has allowed for the return of golf, track and field, cross country, and tennis.

According to new guidance issued by the California Department of Public Health, outdoor moderate-contact sports or red tier sports, can be played in the purple tier if the county’s case rate is equal to or less than 14 per 100,000.

Currently, Humboldt County is at 9 COVID-19 cases per 100,000.
