HCOE to offer Covid-19 testing for educators, support staff offering in-person instruction

HUMBOLDT COUNTY, Calif. (KIEM) — The Humboldt County Office of Education is teaming up with the state to provide Covid-19 surveillance testing for educators who are providing in-person learning and support staff.

It’s a drive through testing model. The state’s Valencia branch laboratory will be the one processing the self-administered tests. HCOE says the goal of ongoing testing of educators is to keep students and staff safe once back in the classroom. The drive through model is based on local and state examples and is trying to be as accessible and hassle-free as possible.

“The tester gives the individual in their car a swab test. They receive instruction on how to do the swab test, then they give the completed test back to the person administering the test. In turn, it’s transported by courier to the lab for results. Once tested, the person who received it is free to go on their way,” according to HCOE’s public information officer Ken Conlin.
