HUMBOLDT COUNTY, Calif. (KIEM) — Phase 1B of Covid-19 vaccinations is underway and according to Humboldt County’s vaccination plan, incarcerated individuals are included in that group. This is because jails or prisons are considered congregate settings with risk of an outbreak.

People that are incarcerated are handled by the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation. According to Humboldt County Health Officer Dr. Ian Hoffman, staff working in our local jails have been vaccinated and there are ongoing talks about a vaccination plan for inmates.

“This group is definitely vulnerable and we recognize that and we want to vaccinate them. We are just waiting for more vaccine to make that happen,” Hoffman says.
