Vast majority of Arcata Fire District firefighters, support staff vaccinated for Covid-19

ARCATA, Calif. (KIEM) — Local first responders are included in phase 1B of distribution and that includes firefighters. According to Arcata Fire District Chief Justin McDonald, the vast majority of both career and volunteer firefighters have received a vaccine.

The first wave of firefighters received their shots when vaccinations first opened for first responders and 10 members of support staff was also able to get vaccinated in order to work around firefighters. The district continues to take recommended safety precautions when out on calls.

“I sleep a little bit better knowing we have the shot. You know, we’re still taking precautions. We have our gloves, gowns, and masks, that hasn’t changed. There is a little bit of a light at the end of the tunnel that maybe the worst bit is over,” McDonald says.
