HUMBOLDT COUNTY, Ca. (KIEM) – A particular phone scam is making the rounds again in the Humboldt County Area.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, the caller identifies themselves as a sheriff’s deputy- and tells you that you’ve missed a court appearance for which you were subpoenaed, and that now, there’s a warrant out for your arrest.

The caller goes on to demand that you buy a gift card and to give them the card numbers over the phone.

Officials with the Sheriff’s Office say they may call you regarding a warrant or investigation – but, they will never demand payment in order to drop the charges.
