Two Eureka Police officers placed on administrative leave after inappropriate text messages uncovered

EUREKA, Calif. (KIEM) – Accusations of crude, lewd, and inappropriate text messaging going on with officers in the Eureka Police Department.

According to an article in the Sacramento Bee newspaper, two EPD officers were singled out, Sergeant Rodrigo Renya-Sanchez and Officer Mark Meftah. The conversations reportedly happened between January and August of 2020.

On Wednesday, Chief Stephen Watson said in a press release, two officers are now on administrative leave pending an investigation. Watson went on to say the messages “do not demonstrate the positive changes we have worked so hard to reach and they do not meet my personal performance expectations for this department.” Watson also said it appears the messaging happened on private phones.
