New legislation expands sick leave time for Californians

HUMBOLDT COUNTY, Ca. (KIEM) – New legislation has been signed which will expand the sick leave time available to California workers.

The bill, SB 95, will ensure up to 80 hours of Covid-19 supplemental paid leave to employees who are advised to quarantine, isolate, or need to care for Covid-impacted family members.

The additional leave will last through September 30th, and can be used retroactively for sick leave taken beginning on the January first of this year.

Small businesses that employ less than 25 workers are exempt from the requirement, but are able to offer supplemental paid sick leave and receive a tax credit.
