Humboldt County Public Health officials urge residents to take the Covid-19 vaccine offered to them

HUMBOLDT COUNTY, Calif. (KIEM) — With three different Coronavirus vaccines on the market now, it’s no surprise that some people want to be able to decide which shot they get.

There are even reports of some Humboldt County residents wanting the Johnson & Johnson vaccine over Pfizer and Moderna, because of it only being one dose, and putting off making a vaccination appointment.

The Humboldt County Public Health Department continues to urge residents to get the vaccine that is made available to them, especially considering the limited supply of J&J vaccines coming into the County.

“So waiting for the Johnson & Johnson is not necessarily helpful for reaching herd immunity or being quickly vaccinated yourself. We also don’t know how the Janssen supply will be coming into Humboldt County and in what amounts. So, if you are offered a vaccine we recommend that you take it,” according to vaccine task force member Lindsey Mendez.

Mendez added that the county has not received any more doses of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine.
