Low-flying PG&E helicopters are inspecting gas transmission lines in Humboldt County through Sunday

HUMBOLDT COUNTY, Calif. (KIEM) — If you’ve seen any low flying helicopters across Humboldt County this week, no need to worry. It’s PG&E doing aerial patrols of gas transmission lines in our area. It will continue through Sunday between 8 am and 4 pm.

The helicopter will be flying at a height of 300 to 500 feet in southern and southeastern Humboldt, but will also be flying to and from Murray Field in Eureka. They use GPS and mapping data to inspect the pipelines and document any excavation or construction activity. Then ground crews may be sent out to make sure safe digging practices are being followed.
