HUMBOLDT COUNTY, Calif. (KIEM)- Two non-profit organizations have teamed up to get volunteers trained for this upcoming wildfire season.

The local American Red Cross and Cooperation Humboldt are organizing a local team of volunteers in Humboldt and Del Norte counties, willing to represent their communities in times of emergencies.

Drivers were in high demand during last year’s wildfire season and were used to support disaster relief efforts.

Volunteers are needed to help coordinate those drivers, as well as food and housing for evacuees for this upcoming season.

Those interested, can fill out a wildfire volunteer form to begin the process to join the community-led emergency response team.”

Relevant self-paced training resources will be provided based on participants specific interest.

Andrew Bogart is the disaster program manager for the American Red Cross Organization’s Humboldt-Del Norte chapter.

“We need compassionate caring neighbors willing to be available to help evacuees as they stay in Red Cross shelters,” he said. “The training is free, and you’d be helping local evacuees during what could be their worst day ever.”
