Humboldt County Health Officer Dr. Ian Hoffman’s message to those still skeptical about the Covid-19 vaccine

HUMBOLDT COUNTY, Calif. (KIEM) — As the rollout of Covid-19 vaccines continues, some people are still skeptical about the science behind them and are hesitant to get the shot.

The Humboldt County Public Health Department understands people’s concerns that stem from the fact these are new vaccines that the public hasn’t really seen before, reports of reactions after getting vaccinated, and temporary pauses in administration. County Health Officer Dr. Ian Hoffman is hopeful the most recent pause of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine won’t sway anyone from getting it.

“We want to hear everyone’s concerns, but we want to remind everyone that these are also safe and effective vaccines, even given what we’re dealing with right now. We always are measuring the potential rare side effects from a vaccine versus the much more common and often deadly consequences of getting the diseases we’re trying to prevent,” Dr. Hoffman says.

More in-depth information on each vaccine can be found on the CDC’s website. If you haven’t already, you can schedule a vaccination appointment using the MyTurn portal.
