ARCATA, Calif. (KIEM)- The community joined Charmaine Lawson, the mother of David Josiah Lawson, and her family in a four mile run in honor of the four year anniversary of her son’s death.

The justice for Josiah walk started at the Arcata City Hall and it made its way to the Arcata marsh where they would circle back around to make it back to city hall, but the walk was more than just a walk for Josiah’s family.

“The main thing is to bring the community together with the hopes that it will motivate and encourage the people with knowledge of what happened on the evening of April 15th to come forward and say, we know exactly who did it, this is what I saw this is the murder suspect,” said Andre Ramos, the mentor of David Josiah. “So that an arrest can be made and a conviction can be had.”

After the walk, Charmaine gathered everyone at the Arcata plaza to honor her son with a coat drive.

She gave out backpacks full of toiletries, she also gave out food and, of course, she handed out coats and blankets to people in need.

Charmaine and Ramos said that this coat drive honors Josiah because it embodies his personality.

“DJ was a very loving and giving individual, which is evident with what his mother has been doing,” said Ramos. “In honor of DJ, even though DJ wasn’t directly connected to the homeless community, there’s obviously a need in Humboldt County to help those that are in need of help.”

Ramos hopes that these events can help bring justice to David Josiah and bring closure to his mother.

“What we want is that the community recognize her pain and identify that this mother is grieving. She is going to continue to grieve, and grieve, and grieve until justice is had,” said Ramos.
