APD and the City of Arcata participate in National Prescription Drug Take Back Day

ARCATA, Calif. (KIEM)- The City of Arcata and the Arcata Police Department came together to participate in National Prescription Drug Take Back Day.

APD was stationed right outside of city hall in the parking lot from 10 am to 2 pm, collecting expired or unused prescription drugs.

The City of Arcata and APD say that it is important to continue to participate in National Prescription Drug Take Back Day to help prevent medications from being misused or disposed of improperly.

“The whole purpose from the drug enforcement agency’s perspective, is to keep expired or just prescription drugs that they don’t want, to get into the wrong hands,” said Jan Herdlick, Police Services Officer for APD. “So, rather turn it into a law enforcement agency and we take of it from there.”

APD and the City of Arcata want to remind the community that you can dispose expired or unused prescription medication at the APD lobby all year round.
